Privacy Policy

Protecting what you tell us is part of the advisory relationship, not an afterthought. This section explains what we collect, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It covers both this website and the personal information we handle in the course of advising you.

The rules we follow

As a private-sector business operating in Alberta, we handle personal information under Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and under the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where that statute applies — including where information crosses a provincial or national border as part of a transaction.

Where we place business with a carrier such as Canada Life, that company is a separate organization governed by its own privacy policy for the information it holds. What follows describes Lavoro's practices.

What we collect

If you use the contact form on this site, we receive the name and email address you type in and the message you send. That is the only form on this website that collects personal information.

While you browse, the third-party components described below receive technical information about your visit.

If you become a client, or ask us to look at something for you, we collect what is needed to recommend and administer the products involved. Depending on what you ask us about, that can include who you are and how to reach you; your financial picture, such as income, assets, debts, existing holdings, tolerance for risk and what you are trying to achieve; the beneficiaries and dependants you name; identity records we are required by law to obtain and keep; and, where an insurer needs it to assess an application, health and lifestyle information.

We ask for health information only when an insurer requires it to underwrite something you have applied for, and only with your consent.

Why we collect it, and your consent

We use personal information to identify you, understand your situation, recommend products and strategies that suit it, apply for and service the policies and accounts you decide on, answer your questions, keep the records our regulators and tax and anti-money-laundering law require, and stay in touch with you about what you hold and what we do.

We ask your permission before collecting, using or sharing your personal information, unless the law allows or requires us to act without it. Sometimes that permission is explicit, such as signing an application. Sometimes it is implied by what you have asked for — sending us a message through the contact form so that we can reply to it, for instance.

You can withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual limits and reasonable notice, by contacting us at the address below. Withdrawing it may mean we can no longer provide a particular product or service, and we will tell you if that is the case.

We do not sell your personal information.

Cookies and third-party components on this website

This site loads the following components supplied by other companies. Each receives information about your visit, including your IP address:

These companies are based outside Canada, principally in the United States. Information they handle may be stored in or reached from other countries and may be subject to the laws of those countries, including access by foreign courts and authorities.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings, though doing so may change how parts of this site behave. You can also limit Meta's advertising cookies through the ad preferences in your Meta account.

Who else sees your information

We pass personal information on only where it is needed to deliver what you have asked for, or where the law requires it. That can mean:

• Insurers and investment companies, so that the products you apply for can be underwritten, issued and administered. The client portals linked from this site are operated by Canada Life and Mackenzie Financial.
• Businesses that work on our behalf, such as technology, hosting, email and administrative providers, who are required to protect the information and use it only for the job we hired them to do.
• Regulators, tax authorities and law enforcement, where we are obliged or permitted to disclose.
• Anyone you tell us in writing to deal with, such as your accountant or your lawyer.

How we protect it

We use physical, organizational and technical safeguards suited to how sensitive the information is: access limited to people who need it, confidentiality obligations across the firm, secure storage, and protected transmission of anything submitted through this website. We review those measures as our practices change.

You should also understand that material sent across the internet travels over networks nobody fully controls. We cannot promise a transmission to or from this site will stay private, and information in transit may in principle be intercepted, altered or seen by someone else. Please weigh that before sending anything sensitive through the site.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, or for as long as legislation and our regulators require us to hold it — whichever runs longer. Records supporting the advice we gave, the transactions we placed and the identity checks we performed are subject to minimum retention periods set by law. Once information is no longer needed, we destroy, erase or anonymize it securely.

What you can ask us to do

Subject to the exceptions the law allows, you may ask us to:

• show you the personal information we hold about you, tell you how it has been used, and tell you who it has been given to
• correct anything that is wrong or incomplete
• stop relying on your consent, as described above
• explain ourselves if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information

Put your request in writing to the address below. We will respond within the time limit set by the applicable privacy legislation — generally 45 days under Alberta PIPA, and we will explain any extension we need to take. We may have to confirm who you are first. If we turn a request down in whole or in part, we will tell you why and how to take it further.

Email is not a secure channel

Ordinary email offers no meaningful protection in transit. If you need to send us account numbers, your Social Insurance Number, health details or anything else you would not want read by a stranger, please call the office at 780-990-0246 and we will arrange a safer way to receive it.

Client portals

Access to the client portals referred to on this site — those run by Canada Life and Mackenzie Financial — is provided by those companies under their own terms and their own privacy policies. If you hold credentials for one of them, keep them to yourself: instructions given under your sign-in are treated as coming from you, and you should tell the provider straight away if you think someone else has obtained them.
